Perseverance with a Dream

There is a story of Charles Wright going to a drug store to share the idea of selling flashcubes. For those of you who do not remember them, these were small square cubes that snapped onto the top of a camera and would “flash” if you needed more light. There were four flashes per cube. The druggist told Charles he had never had anyone ask for flashcubes. Charles’ reply was “have you ever had anyone ask for a hair cut?” The druggist looking very confused answered no. Charles replied “put a barber’s chair in here and I believe you would.” With that, the druggist allowed Charles to install a rack and stock it with flashcubes. Shortly afterwards on Christmas Eve, the druggist called Charles saying he needed more flashcubes. Of course, Charles left his family dinner to service his customer.

When Mother and Daddy knew they were doing something God wanted them to do, they stayed focused and did not allow obstacles to become stumbling blocks. Never giving up, because they knew God would give them the strength and wisdom to keep on keeping on. ~ Patsy Wright Burks

What a long way Lighting and Lamp has come. It began with flashcubes for cameras that do not even exist anymore to installing and maintaining commercial lights at familiar places such as Chick-Fil-A and Raceway today. Diligence continues to be a main focus. Through it all, perseverance has prevailed through three generations, beginning with Charles and Ruth, to their daughter Patsy Burks and now to her son Randy Calhoun, who currently strives to gain knowledge everyday to improve customer satisfaction in Pelham, AL and surrounding areas.

James 1:2-4 ~ "Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know the testing of your faith develops perseverance. Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything."

We do not need to pretend to be happy during our difficult times but have a positive attitude knowing God is in control. These times can teach us not to give up.
